* ~ My Secret Garden ~ *
by Emma W.
I have a secret garden
That none shall ever find
For the secret of my garden
Is that it's hidden in my mind.
It has brick walls protecting it
And suspicions guard it, too,
As they scare away those whom
Would seek to break in through.
Only I may enter here,
For 'tis I who hold the key
To the pretty little garden gate
That only I can see.
As only I can see the pup
That scampers through the trees;
A childhood mem'ry of one
Whom I hold dear to me.
My happiness shows in the sun
That warms the grassy grounds
And my tears of sorrow are the rains
That water the garden year-round.
The plants are my companions
And they entertain me, too,
As they never fail to make me laugh
When I am feeling blue.
I tell the daisies my hopes and dreams,
The roses of loves in past years,
The marigolds gossip, so I confide in them naught
And cherry tree comforts my fears.
The bluebells' dancing cause me to laugh
And lift my spirits when I'm morose
While the magnolia whisper of far-off lands
And the lily's hold times of repose.
I love my little flowers dearly
And they will guard my secrets well
For not only are they loyal and sweet,
But have no mouth's with which to tell.
So here I sit under the apple-tree,
Eating it's fruit to ease my fast,
While the hibiscus dream of the future
And the forget-me-nots remember the past.
